Hebrews 13:7-9

Think about a time when a friend of yours was telling you about an idea that they had for a job, relationship, or opportunity he or she was going to pursue that seemed really strange. How did you respond? How did your friend’s idea turn out?

We can have confidence in God’s Word that never changes (Heb 13:8). How do we protect ourselves in God’s promise of grace by not getting carried away by strange teachings?

  1. Stay focused on the Bible. Scripture was revealed to us so that we would know the character of God. Always develop your theology (how you understand and believe God) around scripture and never the other way around.
  1. Stay in relationships with other believers. If you find yourself believing something that everyone else close to you is questioning, then consider questioning the teachings you are listening to. Understand the difference between personal convictions vs. scriptural teachings.
  1. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:25 reminds us to keep in step with the Spirit. Gal. 5:22-23 shows us the evidence of keeping in step with the Spirit.
  1. Stay focused on God’s mission. We live in a culture saturated with things to do…but remember Matthew 28:18-20. This is the mission every Christian is called to own.

God’s mission for you may lead you to become an outsider to many. But God’s promise of grace won’t make you a stranger in the church. Let your heart be strengthened through God’s grace that has guided believers in every generation.
