Acts 1.23-26

“So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, ‘Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.’ Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.”

After remembering the words of poetry from the Psalms, the disciples made sense of their actions with a poetic prayer. They formed new words of worship built on the poems of the Psalms.

So often in our lives it can feel like we have two possible futures. We stand a fork in the road, both packed with potential, both equally deserving of life. When we face times like this, just as the disciples did in choosing between Joseph and Matthias, lean on the Lord’s guidance.

Way to Wait

Compose a short poem, a song, a poetic prayer. Put your concerns on paper and reflect on it as you listen to the voice of the Spirit. What is the Lord saying to you in response?
