JESUS IS FOR . . . PEOPLE WHO NEED GOOD NEWS

“Then an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah, standing at the right side of the altar of incense . . . The angel answered, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.”

(Lk 1:11,19)

Gabriel was a messenger from God sent to tell Zechariah about good news. Gabriel also was the one to tell Mary that she was highly favored even though nothing in the world around her caused her to believe that.  Christmas is all about God meeting with people surrounded by bad news and giving them the best news of all: God cares about you and is sending His Son for you.  Maybe this Christmas you are supposed to be God’s messenger to someone who needs the same message?

Later in His life, Jesus Himself would say that the good news that began with His birth would one day finish history: “And this gospel [good news] of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Mt 24:14)

Be a messenger of that good news this Christmas.
