Full of A Different Joy.

You really need to read the whole chapter of Luke 10 to understand Jesus’ joy. The whole party started at Luke 10:17 when the 72 disciples return to Jesus with “joy.” Four times the word joy or rejoice is used from Luke 10:17-21, but the last time Luke uses a different word to emphasize that we can experience a different kind of joy.

The disciples joy (chara) was based on their recently experienced victory. They were in a season of success, blessing and favor. God was surely with them as they did things they never thought possible.

Jesus didn’t stifle their joy, but He reminded them of one that was less temperamental. A joy that wasn’t so circumstantial, and thereby greater (Luke 10:20). Jesus knew of a different kind of joy that could transform one’s exterior all while transcending one’s daily experiences.

Then through the Holy Spirit Jesus was full of this joy (agalliao). A joy that could see the wisdom of childlike faith over knowledge and experience (Luke 10:21). A joy that could praise God even though the cross was still ahead of him. (Hebrews 12:2). A joy that would not be entangled by the worries of the day, but could keep its owner’s eyes fixed on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33).

This joy is not reserved for the outgoing and the extrovert. No its reserved for those who are filled with the Holy Spirit.

Today- be filled again with God’s Spirit and His different kind of joy.
