God gives Moses directions for the tabernacle in Exodus 30, but look at verse six:

“You shall put the altar in front and outside of the veil that screens the ark of the Testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the Law, where I will meet with you.”

The Lord reminds Moses that He’ll meet them in front of the mercy seat. But why?

The word “meet” here means “appoint”. An appointed meeting place is where individuals agree to come when something has kept them apart. Right in front of the mercy seat blanketing the Law is our appointed meeting place with God!

Think of it, when Christ died for our sins, the veil that kept everyone but the high priest from God’s presence was ripped, showing that unbroken fellowship was finally available! The Father at great personal expense, planned to open the way for us to intimately know Him. He was pointing to the day when Christ’s blood would be poured upon the mercy seat for the sins of the world. The blanket of mercy knitted from Christ’s shed blood, covers the Law that we could never walk out!

Christ’s sacrifice doesn’t destroy the Law; it fulfils it and opens the way for us to enter into God’s throne room of grace! We no longer need a high priest, for Christ the Great High Priest offered His own blood, rending the veil that distanced us from our Father!

What a priceless meeting place He’s created, be sure to join Him there!
