Consecration for a Higher Purpose

In Exodus 28, we see Moses receive instructions regarding the priestly garments and their use in the Tabernacle. The skilled men would make all the priestly garments (vs. 3), the ephod (vs. 6), and the Breastpiece (v.15)  Aaron and his sons would serve as the priests. Great care was taken to make sure the Tabernacle was set apart to honor the Lord and welcome in the presence of God to the people of Israel.

When Jesus sent the Holy Spirit (John 14:26), there was no longer a need for priestly garments and expensive adornments. Just as Aaron and the priests were chosen by God to hear from the Lord, every Christian now has the ability to hear from the Lord daily.

1. Memorize Romans 3:23. The breastplate (vs. 15-30) reminds us that all people have fallen short of God’s standard of righteousness.

2. Meditate on Romans 12:1-2. We are to be sanctified through Christ because we are all prone to keep going back to the old way of life. Sanctification is normally a gradual, day-by-day process.

3. Read 2 Corinthians 5:17-18. We are a new creation in Christ…God initiates our redemption so that we would proclaim his saving grace to the world. We are not simply living a better life, we are discovering a whole new way of life.

Have you discovered the weight of your own sin? Have you been set apart for God’s purposes? Do you know that you are a new creation in Christ? Be consecrated in the Lord’s plan, and you will discover a higher purpose for everyday life.
