This passage shows us that even God’s most chosen servants face trials, but God’s plan prevails. We often wonder in life, “Why me?” when we are facing particularly difficult circumstances. The Christian life is described as warfare against evil.  Paul even writes to Timothy, “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim 3:12).

But God promises to protect us with His armor. In Ephesians 6:10-18 Paul tells us to be strong in the Lord and His mighty power, to put on “the full armor of God.”

We will have trials in life, but God has given us a host of tools to protect and defend ourselves. Paul took up the shield of faith and the belt of truth. Doing so led to his transfer to Rome. When times get tough, count on the armor of God’s protection!
