Life in 6 Words: G.O.S.P.E.L.  God. Our. Sins. Paying. Everyone.

Sins – cannot be removed by good deeds

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion and blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51: 1-2

What an incredible God we serve! If you have made mistakes, committed sins and in general, flat-out messed up, this scripture should give you a reason to hope. Why? Because God doesn’t deal with us as we deserve but as the loving, compassionate Father He is!

Confession time: It’s taken YEARS for me to understand this concept and honestly – many days I still try to “fix” my mistakes/sins. I operate under the misguided notions that “maybe this time I’ve finally done it and God won’t forgive me” or that if I feed the homeless, donate to charities, or attend church regularly – that somehow I wipe out a sin of equal weight. WRONG!

True, there is nothing I can do ….except come before God with a humble heart and pliable spirit, crying out for His mercy and forgiveness. That’s it. Sounds too simple right? A divine exchange that can only take place when we clothe ourselves with Jesus. We cannot save ourselves but we can trust in the One who promises to blot out our transgressions when we earnestly seek Him.
