“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.” (John 15:12-14)

What’s your definition of love? Is it the same as God’s? After all, the world certainly has some very different ideas about the definition of love. Based on Jesus’ example and words in John 15:12-14, which call us to love each other as Jesus has loved us, here’s a simple definition of love:

Love serves God’s will God’s way in another person’s life.

In the middle of our everyday lives, we need to stop asking ourselves, “How do I feel like acting towards this person?” Instead, we should be asking, “How does the Bible tell me to act towards this person?” Those two questions are drastically different and will bring us very different results. Sadly, most Christians don’t even consider the difference and their own relationships fight against a “first love” for Jesus. If we want to “do the things you did at first” and make Jesus first and center in our lives, we have to follow Jesus’ example and commands in how we have relationships with people around us.
