There are only two other stories in the bible where the word “overshadow” was used: the story of the Mount of Transfiguration (Matt. 17:5, Mark 9:7, and Luke 9:34) and the story of Peter’s shadow being able to heal the sick (Acts 5:15). Both stories illustrate unimaginable moments where God’s presence and supernatural power was undoubtedly displayed.

Mary was facing fearful circumstances, financial crisis, and painful loss in social and relational arenas. Surely, these realities cast a shadow on Mary’s thoughts. Surely, her mind searched for evasive answers and explanations to her situation (v34). This is what made God’s promise so divine:

“The power of the Most High will overshadow” all that is looming over you.

As big as her problems and pains were, the power of the Most High was promised to be greater. Mary’s response to this promise was right positioning:  “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38).

Today- in the face of those things which loom over you— position yourself rightly underneath the Most High and find a practical way to serve His will. Also, trust the promises God has given you, “for no word from God will ever fail” (Luke 1:37). Rehearse the words He has spoken and pray that His assertions will be fulfilled.
