The Holy Spirit Gives You What You Need

Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray the Lord’s prayer in Luke 11:1-13. The disciples had not yet realized their full need for the Holy Spirit. Read Luke 11:9-13. Jesus concludes by saying that the Holy Spirit would give them what they needed. Jesus is encouraging His disciples to receive the Holy Spirit by asking, seeking, and knocking.

Ask- Luke 18:40-43. We must first ask God for what we are seeking. Be specific with your prayers. As you pray for your needs, tell God what it is you are expecting Him to do. Remember, it is His will you are praying for, not what you want.

Seek- (Ps 37:23) This is living as though God is answering your prayers and directing your steps already. So for example, if you are asking God for a new job, you are seeking God’s Will about job opportunities you are pursuing, and thanking Him in advance for the job He is providing. Faith and trust in the Lord follows thru with corresponding actions.

Knock- To knock is to imply a persistence to keep on praying until God answers your prayers. One way to not grow weary and to keep on knocking is by praying through different passages of scripture each day. Here’s one example: To pray for someone who doesn’t know Christ, pray through Romans 6:23.

God designed you to live in need of the Holy Spirit. Are you continually seeking the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to fill your needs each day? Don’t look for substitutes, you will find what your need by keeping Jesus at the center of Christmas.
