Ready to Serve ~

“If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” John 12:26

Who are you serving? Let that question soak into your spirit a minute before reading on. Many times we become so focused in doing the “work of the Lord” that we miss the whole point. It’s not about what we are doing but WHO we are serving: God, others, or ourselves?

The scripture above tells us that if we want to serve Jesus we must

A)     Follow Him – so that

B)     We’ll be where He is and ready to serve at a moment’s notice

Serving others joyfully means one thing – Jesus. When we serve others as an act of worship to Jesus, joy naturally flows because we are centered on Jesus and not ourselves. I love the phrasing in the Message describing how we will be serving, “at a moment’s notice”. I know this phrase may seem daunting. It implies that at any time God may prompt you to serve…way outside of your comfort zone and in an area you feel completely inadequate in. Let me assure you, you are not alone. Read the scripture again. If we are following Jesus, we will be with Him and READY to serve. Jesus will equip you. So today, as you serve others, remember who you are serving – Jesus.
