He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light- John 1:8
As we continue to give the gift of grace to everyone around us and study to first chapter of John we come upon a very important verse in this chapter. Let’s break it down:
“He was not the light”
John wanted to make it clear that John the Baptist was not the light. Sometimes we view religion or religious figures as the answer to life’s problems. The answer has and will always be Jesus. As Christian being around my “non-Christian” family members (maybe your co-workers) I have to make sure I always let them know that I’m not the answer to their broken marriages, lives, careers, and etc.
“But came to bear witness about the light”
John also wanted to make sure that it was the job of John the Baptist to share “the light” to all those he come in contact with. I’m sure in this dark world there are many of your co-workers and family in need of the light of Jesus.
John 8:12 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
