Philippians 2:1-11

Finishing Well

I have an attitude problem. So do you. Before you get offended, have you ever said to someone, “I don’t like your attitude”, or someone said that to you? Attitudes: ways of thinking or feeling that affect our behavior. Are they important?

“Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ…” (Phil 2:5 TLB)

Paul reminds the Philippians (and us) we should mimic Jesus’ attitude. Why? Because even when we’re doing things well, we fall short. There’s always room for improvement! So what’s Jesus’ attitude? Humility. Allow me to share a recent lesson. I was at work & had finished my lunch. While in the kitchen to wash my dishes, I noticed dishes left in the sink by a co-worker I do not like. Though it’s not usually spoken in our “polite” Christian world (we all have those feelings). I had no intention of washing her dishes. God had another idea. I told God she was a grown woman & should wash them herself. He was silent. I argued she wouldn’t even know it was me doing this “nice” thing for her. Silence. I tried to leave the kitchen but felt glued to the floor. So I washed the dishes. Only then did God ask me if I wanted her praise or His glory to be shown through my life. Well … you know my answer.

Our attitudes set the stage for what God is able to do THROUGH us. Will you allow Him to change yours today?
