The journey of genuine transformation to emotionally healthy spirituality begins with a commitment to allow yourself to feel. It is an essential part of humanity and unique personhood as men and women made in God’s image (page 70). The call of discipleship includes experiencing our feelings, reflecting on our feelings, and then thoughtfully responding to our feelings under the lordship of Jesus (page 71).

Emotions are normal. If we didn’t have the feelings of being sad during challenging times, or being happy when things are going great, we wouldn’t be human. However, it’s how we respond to those emotions is what’s important. God wants to be the one we come to in those seasons of our lives. When we are facing difficult times in our lives, He wants us to cast those cares on Him. 1 Peter 5:7. He never wants us to go through those seasons alone. He also places people in our lives that can help us to process and walk through those emotions in a Jesus-Centered way. He wants to share in our times of sadness and joy.

No matter what emotions you may be experiencing, allow God to show you the way through. There’s nothing that He can’t handle.
