I was enjoying Deuteronomy 32 until verses 48-52. This is where God reminds Moses that he’s not entering the Promised Land because of a sin that he’d committed earlier. Let’s be honest, haven’t you ever felt bad for Moses? I mean think about all he put up with for those forty years in the desert.

But the Lord reminded me that our actions have consequences that sometimes cannot be negated.

I have made poor choices and occasionally God in His infinite grace smoothed things out and I escaped the after-effects. But usually it doesn’t work that way and Moses’ and our lives are prime examples of this. When we make poor choices in our finances, relationships or careers God doesn’t just hand us a get-out-of-consequences-free card. In fact, sometimes we feel the effects of those mistakes for a lifetime. Now that doesn’t mean God washes His hands of us; He’s still loves us through every mistake. He didn’t leave Moses and He won’t leave us either.

As I was pondering Moses’ “injustice” the Lord asked me “So what about Moses?” And I said, “Well, he died.” And God whispered “Then what?” and the bulb finally flickered. He got to go to Heaven! Heaven and the presence of God is the ultimate end for all those who love God and His Son. So the end of the story is that no matter what mistakes we’ve made, God never leaves us to face them alone and in the end, Heaven for eternity is our final destination! Praise God!
