Distinguishing Provision

Most of Deuteronomy 14 talks about eating certain animals. Experts disagree about why God rejected particular ones. But of real importance isn’t why certain animals were chosen, but that God selected any.

Since food is necessary for life to continue, God gave regulations so that every time the Israelites sat down to eat, they were reminded that they weren’t like the pagan nations. It distinguished them as God’s chosen people!

God considered them as His precious treasure, which meant that everything affecting their lives was important to Him, including every morsel of life sustaining food. And as His children, we too are His cherished people and every detail that approaches our life gets filtered by His loving hands.

And thankfully, nothing that touches your life today is too big for Him to handle OR too small for Him to care about. In Luke 12:7 Jesus reminds us of this in that even the hairs of our head are numbered by our Father and we know that that number changes every moment of every day!

Today, as we invariably sit down to eat, may our hearts swell with a fresh thankfulness for His ample provision which also marks us as His own. In fact, may we recognize that His generous hand has not only provided food for our physical bodies but through Christ He’s gifted us with “Everything that pertains to life and godliness”. (II Peter 1:3)

So let us give unbridled praise to the Provider of all good things!
