“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24, NIV)

Ever told God He wasn’t enough for you? Israel did when they asked Samuel to set a king over them. God wasn’t good enough to be their king. (1 Samuel 12: 12-14) Even though this was a sin, God gave the Israelites what they asked for with a reminder: Serve the Lord. God’s reminder was out of love. He knows our heart and like the Israelites – most of us aren’t servant material! We attend church out of habit, but reluctant to surrender control. We recite the commandments … keeping them when it’s convenient (think about being stuck in traffic, another looming deadline, baby crying, hanging out with friends). Bible study – sure, but are we learning and applying the Word?

My point isn’t to beat you up. I’m right beside you. What I’m saying is this: we can’t pick & choose when we want to serve God. God is not temporary. Neither is His faithfulness. He has blessed you with a gift – a unique way to serve Him which brings Him glory. When we choose to serve God above all else He will, in His faithfulness, work everything together for good. (Romans 8:28) Choose today how you will serve God. Serve Him with a clean & right heart & He will be faithful.
