John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Haven’t you asked that very question as you fumbled around in the dark? I have, because usually darkness comes upon us unexpectantly. We don’t see it coming, literally. Suddenly the familiar becomes the unknown. And. We. Struggle. Come on, be honest, don’t you flounder around trying to “feel” your way to the light switch-but sometimes no matter how much effort we make the light doesn’t come on.
Of course John 1:5 is talking about the ultimate light; Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent to be God’s brilliant light for the pervasive darkness surrounding our world. Some places have seemingly unconquerable darkness but His light displaces any darkness that it comes into contact with. Light and darkness cannot both be in control at the same time. So we choose: light or darkness and then our light or His. When we choose His light, we get to possess Christ’s unquenchable light within us-so we never abide without the light, plus we get to carry His brilliance to those who stumble in the dark!
Today, carve out time to intercede for and actively share His light with the people who dwell in darkness and for the nations (including ours) attempting to squelch the light of Christ!
