I’m reminded of a scene from the movie “Facing The Giants” when the head coach questions the school intercessor about his faith and belief in God. The man turns to the coach and gives him the story of two farmers that plowed their fields in the midst of a drought and only one of the farmers went and planted seed in the field. Both famers prayed for rain. Which farmer do you think really trusted in God to bring the rain? The coach replied I suppose the one that went and prepared his field and planted seed. The intercessor replied “ and which man are you?”
God’s Rain is meant to water those dry places in our life and the seed that has been planted in our hearts. Jesus gives us an example of sowing seed into good soil from Matthew 13: 3-9 and how to prepare the soil of our hearts.
So How do I, in an act of faith, prepare the soil and field of my heart?
- PRESS IN and PRAY– prayer is the plow the turns up the hard places in our life and exposes the roots of unbelief and doubt and fears and hidden sins.
- PRESS IN and DO THE RIGHT THING- by doing the right thing, that is like pulling weeds that would try and grow and choke out the life and fruit and character that God is trying to grow in the garden of your life as your waiting for HIS rain to come and water those seeds.
- PRESS IN and live every day in BURNING FAITH – That’s the kind of faith that would plant a field full of seeds in the midst of drought believing that God will bring the rain. That’s the type of faith that believes that God is bigger than my bank account and the bills that need to be paid, thats the type of burning faith that believes that the name of Jesus is BIGGER than any situation or sickness I am facing and that I can trust in HIM.
Is your heart ready to receive God’s Rain?
If we prepare the soil of our hearts and plant that seed of trust and obedience- guess what the fruit will be that comes forth from God’s amazing Rain?
The fruit we will yield is :
God’s LIFE
God’s Presence in Us
God’s Power through Us
Isaiah 30:23– Then He will give you RAIN for the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plenteous.
