“’If you can?’ said Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’”

 Mark 9:23 & 24

Life is made up of moments: ordinary moments, life changing moments. Moments God uses to cultivate our faith. Today’s scripture focuses on one such moment in a father’s life. His son is ill. Has been for a very long time and the father is worn out. He’s not given up – he’s just tired. Tired of disappointment and watching his son suffer.

Challenging moments are the ones I struggle with most. I know it’s where my faith gets tested and strengthened but in that moment – I struggle with trusting God much like the father in Mark 9. But when those moments arrive, as they will in each of our lives, we have some choices to make.

We can struggle in our own abilities for a solution and remain mired in our flesh

We can ask Jesus for help, giving the situation over to Him while we focus on the outcome

OR

We can placed the situation in Jesus’ hands focusing our hearts and attention on the One who already knows the solution and is in control of every situation.

The father needed help believing. At times, so do I. When I choose faith in those moments and focus solely on Jesus, God’s power is released and my impossibilities become God realities!
