How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans10:14
Elizabeth Ressen has been a missionary all over Southeast Asia for many years. However, her story of becoming a missionary is one (like most missionaries) filled with faith in God and personal sacrifice.
Elizabeth graduated from The University of Clemson with a degree in marketing. She had just received an offer from Pepsi where she interned to work full time. Two weeks before that she had just got engaged to the man of her dreams that she met while in college. It appeared that her life was on track to her fulfilling all the dreams she had. That was until one day she went to a small group that her church put on. During the small group she heard from God through a devotional video they were watching. The video highlighted all the places in the world that did not know about the gospel of Jesus.
After watching the video she started praying daily that the people in Southeast Asia would know Jesus. After many days of praying, God told her that “she was the answer to her prayers”. God led her to the above Bible verse. She knew that God was sending her to go to Southeast Asia to spread the gospel message of Jesus. She notified her fiancé and to her surprise he said that he wanted to come as well.
Elizabeth’s’ call to be a missionary reminds me of the above Bible verse. Sometime we can pray that God reveals His gospel to people or we could pray that God use us to reveal His gospel to people. Sometimes we are the answer to our own prayers.
