“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel – which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.” (v. 6-7)
There’s nothing wrong with having questions. We all have questions we would like to ask God. But some people get so caught up in “Why”, they never get anything settled. And this is what happened to the Galatians when they allowed people to come in and twist the gospel creating confusion. Paul makes crystal clear two things in Galatians 1:6-7:
- God called us by the grace of Christ – there is nothing we can do to earn His grace, it’s freely given
- Anything that is added to the gospel (the Word of God) makes it no gospel or in essence, the opposite of what God intended
Confusion can arise when we don’t fully comprehend scripture. And while we might not be able to fully understand every detail or explain how or why God does the things, we can be certain of the following:
- God’s love (John 3:16)
- Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins (1 Peter 3:18-22)
- Jesus saves – we don’t (John 11:25-16)
Don’t let anyone twist scripture so much that you don’t know which way is up. Know the scripture to know God.
