“From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary.” ~ Exodus 39:1a
Exodus 39 may seem insignificant giving specifics of the Ephod, breast piece, and garments and then continuing to detail linens, jewels and metals that were used. Why is this important?
First, understanding each piece was created by the work of an expert:
• Skilled hands (v.3)
• Skillfully woven (v.5)
• Skilled craftsman (v.8)
The attention given in this portion of Scripture signifies that not just any Israelite could create these items, only the work of skilled craftsman. Which brings me to the first sentence, “From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary.” Everything created was for the purpose of ministering.
We too are fashioned by the hands of a “skilled craftsman” – the Lord Almighty Himself.
• “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Ps. 139:13)
And we were designed for the purpose of ministering.
• “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Esp. 2:10)
Like the garments and tools, God created us for His service. We have been set in this place and time for divine purposes of ministering, both individually and collectively as the church body. Let us set our minds on the purposes of God to lead the next generation. We all have a purpose in advancing the kingdom of God.
