We all have skills and gifts that God has given us so that we can serve him and the body of Christ. Some of the gifts are “up front” skills that tend to get more attention – like teaching, preaching, evangelism, or leading others. For some reason, some people look at these gifts as if they’re more special than others. However, the Bible is clear that the “behind the scenes” skills and gifts are just as important for the body of Christ, gifts such as: mercy and helps (serving others), encouragement, discernment, and prayer. “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35, NIV)
What do you think your skills and gifts are? How are you doing? Are you using those gifts for God, or are you too busy to use them?
Spend time thanking God, the giver of all gifts, for your skills and gifts. Confess any sin these verses reveal in your life, and surrender your life to Jesus. He gave us our gifts for a reason, and he desires to use us to expand his kingdom on earth. There is also a joy that comes to us when we when we use our gifts. We feel as though we’re doing what we were created to do!
