In Exodus 29, God instructed the Israelites to consecrate Aaron and his sons as the very first priests. Aaron’s family, the tribe of Levi, would be the priests for God’s people until the coming of the Messiah.
“The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance. In this way you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.” (Exodus 29:9, NIV)
In order to have their sins forgiven, God’s people would have to visit a priest and sacrifice a lamb as an offering to the Lord. The Bible says “the wages of our sin is death,” but the blood of the lamb would atone for the sins of the Israelites, making them right with God
Everything changed when God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus became the sacrificial lamb. While the blood of the lamb in the Old Testament was a temporary atonement, Jesus’ blood became an atonement for all of our sins. Jesus is also the Great High Priest, and we no longer have to visit a priest to have our sins forgiven. Now we can go directly to Jesus, and he forgives our sins.
Spend time praising God for sending Jesus to be the sacrificial lamb and die for our sins. Really, words can’t express how important this is in our everyday lives. We were on a path toward eternal separation from God, and now we are a part of God’s family for all of eternity. Confess any sin that comes to mind to Jesus, , who forgives us when we ask him for forgiveness. The good news is that Jesus died for us.
