”Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three says they traveled in the desert without finding water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, ‘What are we to drink’” ~ Exodus 15:22-24
Three days – it only took three days for the Israelites to forget one of the greatest Old Testament miracles – the parting of the Red Sea. Never mind plagues God sent to turn pharaoh’s heart, standing on the banks watching your enemy being swallowed by the sea or songs of praise to God for His deliverance and salvation. (v. 1-21) Let discomfort creep in, some thirst and straight back to captivity thinking!
How many times are we on the other side of a crisis and think, “It wasn’t so bad”? We have short memories when it comes to God’s miracles in our lives. Our minds can trick us into believing that somehow we got ourselves out of that crisis instead of remembering how God rescued us.
Too often I find even though I’ve spent time with God in the morning, by afternoon I’m living in my own strength. Can’t find my keys when I’m running late for work and my world begins to crumble. That’s when I need to once again, surrender my heart to Jesus asking Him to create in me His purpose. Not in my strength, but His.
