“And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.” (v42)
Every day may not be balanced, but every day should be centered on Jesus. In this passage, the disciples’ circumstances change from day to day. Before verse 17, they are seeing great success and acceptance from people. The next day they are arrested and faced with hateful enemies and threats (v18). The next day they have seen an angel and have a very specific mission for that day from God (v19-26). They speak boldly, get beaten and leave with joy. How do they go through all that change, stress, and uncertainty and end up with joy? Simple, one focus never changes in their lives every day: Jesus!
One day being centered on Jesus will bring you acceptance and success. The next day it will bring you rejection and threats. Don’t look for circumstances and people to make you stable in life – look at your own heart’s commitment to focus on Jesus for that. In Galatians 1:6-10, Paul rebukes Christians for flip flopping on their focus and trust in Jesus because of their circumstances – study it for a few moments and see what God says to your heart about today. Who are you tempted to put in the center of your life besides Jesus today. Give that person or circumstance to God right now.
