After Peter and John reported all that had happened to them with the church in Jerusalem, they called the believers together for prayer. First, they recognized God as sovereign (4:24/see Neh 9:6), meaning they understood only He could do this miraculous work. Second, they petitioned the Lord based on the inspired, unchangeable Word of God, as written by David in the Psalms (4:25, see Ps 2:1-2). Finally, they based their petitions on the witness of what God had already done through Jesus (4:29, see 1 Cor 1:23-24). The work of the Holy Spirit would bring salvation to those who were without Christ. The believers were not called to hide from the authorities, but to boldly proclaim Christ’s healing power.
Today, celebrate God’s work within your own family OR within the family of believers. As you are gathered together with one other person or many other persons, glorify the Father as sovereign, petition the Lord, and pray for healing for those who don’t know Christ. He alone is God, no victory is found apart from Christ! The power of prayer unites the church with power for witnessing and boldness to proclaim Christ in every walk of life.
