Plant Seeds
“Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you.” 3:22
Nelson Henderson said, “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” That’s what Moses was doing in today’s passage. An act of disobedience had disqualified him from leading Israel into the land of promise. So, he is encouraging the next generation with the truths that he has personally experienced. That’s the job of every godly leader.
Just think about how many times God had fought for Moses; overcoming his personal sin (murder), Pharaoh, Pharaoh Army, no water, no food, complaining nation, and much more. If anyone knew that God will fight for you it is Moses.
Godly leaders leave more than a business or an inheritance to the next generation. They pass on certain confidence and tenacious trust in God base off of their experience. They know, that since God does not change, the way He worked in their life will continue to be the way He works in the next generation.
When a godly leader has truly lived a life of faith, he can say to those who come after him, “Do not be afraid…the Lord your God himself will fight for you.”
