The old song “God Pleaser” came to mind when I read Colossians 1:9-10. No one wants to be a man-pleaser, but there is always a danger that our best efforts and our most precious resources are being spent to please those around us instead of daily acts of worship.
Probably just like you; the words I long to hear when my days on earth have blended into eternity are “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…” And these verses show us how that can be a reality for us.
1. We resolve to grow and keep growing in spiritual wisdom and understanding. Paul clearly identifies the needed wisdom to be spiritual in nature. Earthly wisdom has its place, but it will always fall short. Only the Spirit’s guidance will bring the clear direction that we need to walk out the perimeters of a life deemed worthy of the Lord. The Holy Spirit will show us what that looks like when we purpose to sit quietly before Him in prayer.
2. We resolve to be involved in regular, fruit bearing good works. Action always follows true wisdom. We are to use God’s wisdom to begin performing the particular good works that we were uniquely created for. And these works when accomplished through the Spirit’s direction will produce lush eternal fruit which is pleasing to our Father.
Today, draw close and ask Him to fill you with His wisdom and then to direct you to the good works He’s earmarked for today!
