In our reading today, we find Paul continuing on his journey to Jerusalem. He is aware of what is before him, but is willing to give his life for the work of the ministry. He was aware that he would be going to prison. In verse 10, scripture tells of the prophesy that was given by Agabus. He took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, in this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.” The people pleaded with Paul not to go up because they too, were aware of what was going to take place. Paul then responded in verse 13, “why are you weeping and breaking my heart? Not only am I ready to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” The passage later states in verse 14, that Paul could not be dissuaded.
Paul knew that the message of the gospel was a message that people needed to hear. He was personally transformed by the power of the gospel. He went from wanting to kill those who said anything about the gospel, to be willing to give his own life for it. Paul was completely aware of what lie before him and was determined that he would continue to spread the gospel. Matthew 28:19
