Study Romans 12:1-2. Then, review Acts 15:36-41. Scripture teaches us the bulk of God’s Will. Sometimes though, following His will gets confusing for us. We are left asking questions like, ‘where are we to go; or what are we to do; and/or when are we to move forward in God’s leading. In Acts 16:1-15, Paul and his companions go on a long, winding journey. Lydia and her family become believers at Phillippi. Consider 3 principles for following the Holy Spirit’s leading in everyday life.
1. The Holy Spirit ALWAYS leads us through seasons of preparation. Paul’s sharp disagreement with Barnabas helped Paul find the right persons to accompany him on his journey. Timothy’s circumcision was necessary so that his future ministry among Jews would be well received.
2. The Holy Spirit’s revelation often comes AFTER seasons of unfruitfulness. We rejoice in Lydia’s family coming to the Lord, but we forget the trials Paul endured during this time. Consider the disappointment of changed plans (16:7) and hundreds of miles of rigorous travel (16:6-12).
3. The Holy Spirit KNOWS things WE don’t. If Paul knew ahead of time all the trials he would face, he surely would’ve found it more difficult to follow the Spirit’s leading.
The Holy Spirit leads us through seasons where WE lack all the answers. Pray and ask God to lead you in His perfect Will today. Be open to let the Holy Spirit APPROVE His leading in you through God’s Word, prayer, and the body of Christ.
