“There was a famine in David’s time. It went on year after year after year – three years, David went to God seeking the reason. God said, ‘This is because there is blood on Saul and his house, from the time he massacred the Gibeonites.’”
Three years! Surely people were dying as a result of this famine. I imagine the Israelites weren’t singing David’s praises. Did David seek God in the first year? Nope. Year two & still no rain … nope. Three years before David wakes up to the reality God is not blessing Israel. He needed an answer. God immediately responded, “Because of Saul & his bloodthirsty wickedness.” Judgement upon the nation was the consequence of Saul’s actions. David was reaping the effects of Saul’s sin. We often find ourselves reaping from what others have sown: the prayers of a parent for their children’s salvation, prayers from a spouse for healing in a marriage, prayers for restoration of a relationship. Good benefits! We don’t think about negative consequences. Low grades due to little studying, bad work habits resulting in a poor review. What do we do?
- Stay before God in prayer. It’s difficult to know His voice if you’re not spending time seeking Him
- Wait for a word: No one likes to wait. But waiting ensures you will be headed in the right direction.
- Repent & offer forgiveness. God will wait for our hearts to be in right position to “right a wrong”
