Hebrews 3:1-6 Greater than Jesus?

Why does the writer of Hebrews go to great lengths in the opening of chapter 3 establishing the supremacy of Jesus over Moses? In my study, I found it is widely believed Hebrews was written to Jewish converts who were being tempted to revert back to Judaism. In the eyes of many Jews, Moses was a revered figure from the Old Testament. After all, he was the mediator of the old covenant. But here in the first 6 verses of Hebrews, the writer stresses Jesus’ supremacy and that we are to “fix your thoughts on Jesus.” (v.1) Moses was faithful in all God’s house (v. 2) while Jesus is over God’s house (v.6). Moses was a servant (v.5) while Jesus is a Son (v.6). “…we are His house, if we indeed hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory” = JESUS. Our pastors are wonderful resources for instruction and guidance. They model Jesus and teach us well. But Sunday morning church services should not replace our own daily study of the Word.

There is no substitution for time we spend with Jesus in scripture, prayer and reflection developing our spiritual ears and focusing our thoughts on Jesus.
