Before looking at what took place, take some time to study who was there. Look at the relationship of the disciples just weeks before this (Matthew 20:20-24; Luke 22:24). What about Jesus’ brothers (John 7:5)? And Consider Mary who was in the midst of the biggest emotional roller coaster in her life— experiencing the conviction, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of her son, Jesus.

This is the “who” that returned to Jerusalem “together” (v13) or “all in one accord” (NKJV) or “with one mind” (NSAB): disciples who had been indignant towards one another, doubting brothers, men and women, people of different generations, ages, religious, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds —now together in one accord and with one purpose: to pray and wait for the Holy Spirit.

God was about to demonstrate the anointing and power of His through an amazingly diverse group of people, and He still longs to do that in us today. You don’t need to be part of a perfect church with people who are just like you.

TODAY: Pray for a unity among the diversity of our church family; connect in prayer with someone from our church family who is different from you;  and pray that God would demonstrate His Spirit’s anointing through our being in “one accord. ”
