“Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.” Deuteronomy 29:18

Sense of Direction

A September 2011 article for CNN cited that only 55% of U.S. smartphone users actively use their phones for directions even though virtually all smartphones are equipped with that technology. Why am I sharing this? Because right in the middle of chapter 29, we encounter two verses (18-19) that pertain to direction…both the Israelites then and ours today.

Now you might not think direction is important. After all, if you “get lost”, you stop and get your bearings then simply change direction. Sounds about right….wrong! Because it’s not just you that’s on the journey.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my walk, no matter how much of a “loner” I think I am…I am connected (and so are you)…to every person I come in contact with whether for a few moments or for years. People we are not even aware of, in our sphere of influence. People we are leading – teaching – by our words and actions.

Let us not be in the 45% of users who have the technology in the hands (the Bible) but never open it up. God gave us scripture for direction. Shouldn’t we all be utilizing the best “app” of all?
